Standout hair at the MTV Video Music Awards

Sofia Carson @sofiacarson

Singer and former Disney actress, Sofia Carson, went for all out elegance with what her stylist Caile Noble called ‘a faux bob that channeled modern rock and roll’ at the recent MTV Video Music Awards in New York.

Carson’s jaw-length bob was super sleek and heavily sprayed into place, with a deep side-parting and tucked neatly behind one ear.

Ayra Starr @ayrastarr

Beninese-born Nigerian singer Ayra Starr’s modern take on a Marie Antoinette hairdo was reminiscent of the 90s hip hop scene. The style consisted of a half (very high) updo with a mass of spiral curls piled on top of the head. A barrel curl fell past one shoulder and the whole look was finished off with a sparse fringe.

Doja Cat @dojacat

Never one to shy away from extreme hair and beauty looks, in this instance rapper Doja Cat’s almost comic book lashes outshone her hair – an ultra-short silver buzz cut.

Sabrina Carpenter @evaniefrausto

One of the relatively few blondes on this year’s MTV VMAs red carpet, Sabrina Carpenter’s golden-hued tresses were arranged into a messy and loose fishtail plait by stylist Evanie Frausto.

Selena Gomez @selenagomez

Actress and singer Selena Gomez had her long, straight raven locks in a middle-part and tucked behind each ear. This may not have been the most unusual look of the night but was certainly a lesson in understated elegance.

Flo Milli @flomillishit

Rapper Flo Milli sported a spectacularly fulsome wig comprised of tight, spiralled curls that skimmed her waist.

Chloe Bailey @chloebailey

Dreadlocks were the order of the day for Chloe Bailey. Hers were tied back neatly into a ponytail which exploded on the other side into tight curls.

Colombian singer Karol G has been rocking pink tresses a la mermaid for some time now, and the MTV VMAs was no exception. Of course, the slightest hint of pink these days makes one automatically think Barbiecore. (Report by Joanna Sterkowicz)
